Project Objectives:
The key objective of this study will be to assess productivity
and performance characteristics for the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach
(LA/LB) in comparison with other selected US and international ports. This
assessment will involve an investigation of the system of port productivity
measurements applied at the LA/LB ports, as well as in other selected U.S.
and international ports. Questions include “What factors determine port
productivity?” and “Why
does the magnitude of certain factors vary among ports?” The answers
to these questions will suggest how the ports of LA/LB might be best evaluated.
As a result, this study can be used as a tool to identify bottlenecks and to
suggest appropriate improvement measures for LA/LB ports.
Tasks:
1. Survey related to productivity and efficiency measurements at Ports
of LA and Long Beach.
2. Analysis of productivity measures
3. Survey related to productivity and efficiency measurements at other ports
4. Port Productivity Comparison Study
